What It Costs
We don't post a number here because roller jobs in South Apopka split two ways depending on what's actually on the door. A straight roller swap on a door that's otherwise sound is a smaller job than one where the track has worn oval from forty years of steel rollers grinding against it, which is common on houses built around 1984 in this part of the service area. If your opener struggles or the door binds halfway up, that's usually a track or hinge problem riding along with the rollers, and we price that once we've seen it, not before. We quote on site, after we've opened the door a few times and watched where it hangs up. That's the honest way to do it, because a phone estimate on a door this old is a guess, and we'd rather not guess at your expense.
What Can Go Wrong
A door built in 1984 was almost certainly fitted with steel rollers running in steel track, and in a lot of South Apopka houses that's still exactly what's up there. Steel-on-steel wears the track faster than nylon ever will, and once the track edges round over, new rollers alone won't fix the noise or the binding. Worn rollers also throw more load onto the hinges and the end bearings, so by the time a homeowner calls about noise, we're often looking at hinges that need replacing in the same visit. The other failure we see on doors this age is a roller stem that's rusted into the hinge, which turns a five-minute swap into a job that needs the stem cut free. None of this is unique to South Apopka's climate - it's age and material, plain and simple.
What the Repair Takes
Once we're on site, replacing a full set of rollers on a double door is a same-visit job in most cases - we pull the door off balance safely, work one hinge at a time, and set new rollers and bearings without pulling the whole track apart unless the track itself is damaged. If the track is scored or bent from the old steel rollers, we true it up or replace the damaged section before the new rollers go in, since new rollers on bad track just wear out again fast. We also check the opener's travel limits afterward, since a smoother-rolling door often needs the opener reset.
Stocked Parts
We carry nylon rollers with sealed bearings on the truck, which is what we put in place of the original steel rollers on most of these 1984-era South Apopka doors - quieter, and they don't chew up the track the way steel does. We also stock standard hinges and short sections of track for the common sizes. What we don't stock is every oddball bracket from a door that's been modified over the years, so if your setup has been patched with non-standard parts before, that piece may need to be ordered, and we'll tell you that up front rather than after we've started.
