What It Costs
We don't publish a flat number for roller jobs because the count and the roller material drive the bill more than anything else. A double door built in the late 1990s, which is the typical build year for houses in Ocoee, usually runs ten rollers; a single door runs eight. If the door is original to a 1999-era build, you're likely looking at stamped-steel rollers on steel stems, which cost less to replace than sealed nylon but wear faster and make more noise doing it. Nylon upgrades cost more per roller but cut the noise down a lot, which matters if the garage sits under a bedroom, as it does in a lot of Ocoee's floor plans from that era. We quote the job after we see the track and the rollers in person, because a bent track or rusted hinges changes the scope. We travel from Winter Garden, about 4 miles, so the trip itself isn't part of what you're paying for.
How to Book
Call and tell us the door is making a grinding or popping sound when it opens, or that it's jumping in the track - that's almost always a roller problem, not a spring or opener problem, and it helps us bring the right stock. We'll ask the rough age of the house, since a door installed when the home was built in 1999 behaves differently than one replaced ten years later with a different roller type. We cover Ocoee as part of our Winter Garden service area and send a truck out the same way we do for any stop within a few miles. We don't run a local branch or drop-in counter in Ocoee itself - the truck comes from Winter Garden, roughly 4 miles away, so give us a call to set the window rather than trying to walk in.
Can You Do This Yourself
Swapping a single roller on a door that's open and off its cables is within reach for someone comfortable with tools, but doing it with the door on its tracks under spring tension is how fingers get caught and tracks get bent. The bottom rollers sit closest to the cables and the bottom brackets, which are under constant pull from the torsion or extension spring - that's the part we tell people to leave alone unless the door is fully down and the opener is unplugged. If more than two or three rollers on one side are worn, it's rarely worth doing one at a time yourself; you'll be back under that door again within a year. We're honest that this isn't always a call-us job - a single stuck roller on an otherwise sound door is sometimes a five-minute fix with a can of lubricant, not a service call.
Why It Happens Here
Most of the houses in Ocoee were built well after the older stock found elsewhere in the Winter Garden service area, with a median build year around 1999 versus 1987 across the wider area. That later construction means more of the doors are factory steel sectional units on steel rollers rather than the older one-piece or wood-panel doors with different hardware entirely. Steel rollers wear through their nylon or plastic bushings faster than sealed nylon rollers do, and a door that's roughly 20-25 years old is right in the window where that wear turns into noise, then into a roller riding up out of the track. The service area's mild temperate climate doesn't add the freeze-thaw stress that cracks rollers in colder regions, so when a roller fails here, it's almost always straight mechanical wear and age, not weather damage.
